Logo
The Race Ready logo places a paddle at the centre of a bold, forward-moving mark. It reflects momentum, progress, and the belief that every stroke counts. The red accent acknowledges the company’s Canadian roots.
About the founders
Race Ready was founded by Wyatt Wong and Arcturus Phoon—two paddlers who wanted better tools for the sport they love. Together, they bring engineering, product design, and firsthand paddling experience to everything Race Ready builds.
Wyatt Wong
Wyatt Wong is a co-founder of Race Ready Sports. A computer and software engineer with more than 30 years of experience, he has spent more than a decade in the paddling community as a racer, coach, and club leader across California and Toronto. At Race Ready, he leads product and technology.
Arcturus Phoon
Arcturus Phoon is a co-founder of Race Ready Sports. With a background in engineering, psychology, and product development, he brings a deep interest in how people interact with technology to the design of training equipment. A dragon boat paddler, he saw the limits of existing off-water training tools—and helped create a better alternative. At Race Ready, he leads engineering.

Media FAQs
What is the Perg Model 1?
The Perg Model 1 is a connected paddle ergometer designed in Canada for dryland paddling training. Its name combines “paddle” and “ergometer.”
It pairs a smooth, water-like stroke with detailed performance feedback, helping paddlers work on technique, consistency, and fitness away from the water.
What's the story behind Race Ready?
Race Ready Sports was founded by Wyatt Wong, Head of Product & Technology, and Arcturus Phoon, Head of Engineering. Both are paddlers who saw an opportunity to build better dryland training tools for the sport.
Wyatt brings more than 30 years of experience in computer engineering, software, and product management, along with more than a decade in the paddling community as a racer, coach, and club leader across California and Toronto.
Arcturus brings a background in materials science, engineering, psychology, and product development. After studying at the University of Toronto, he worked in research and technology development before completing a master’s degree in engineering. His experience as a dragon boat paddler gave him a first-hand understanding of the challenges of off-season training—and the limitations of existing paddle ergometers.
Race Ready grew from a shared ambition to make off-water training more engaging, affordable, and effective. Today, the company brings together expertise across engineering, software, hardware, and product development to help paddlers train with purpose.
How much does the Perg Model 1 cost and when will it ship?
The Perg Model 1 retails for $2,950 CAD. Race Ready is currently accepting pre-orders, with its first production run expected to begin shipping in late November 2026.
Where is the Perg Model 1 designed and manufactured?
The Perg Model 1 is designed in Canada, with components manufactured globally to Race Ready’s specifications. Product design, engineering, and development are led by Race Ready’s Canadian team.
What paddling disciplines is the Perg Model 1 designed for?
The Perg Model 1 is designed to accommodate different paddlers, training styles, and disciplines, including dragon boat, outrigger canoe, and other canoe paddling. Adjustable seat heights and footrest positioning, along with different seat and paddle-shaft options, allow paddlers to tailor the setup to the type of training they are doing.
How is the Perg Model 1 different from existing paddle ergometers?
The Perg Model 1 was designed around three priorities: a more natural stroke, meaningful feedback, and practical training.
- A more natural stroke. A higher swing arm and bent-shaft design create a more connected feel from catch to finish.
- Clear feedback. Force measurement and real-time drag factor show how force is applied through each stroke.
- Built for real training. Adjustable configurations, easy servicing, oversized wheels, and vertical storage make it practical at home or in a club.
Why does the Perg Model 1 feature a bent-shaft design?
Inspired by the outrigger community, the bent shaft works with the Perg Model 1’s higher swing arm to create a more natural connection through the stroke.
At the catch, the geometry creates a more open rope angle, designed to give paddlers the feeling of setting the blade before progressively building power. Through the back of the stroke, the bent shaft helps maintain pressure beyond the hip and through to the finish.
How does the connected training experience work?
The Perg Model 1 connects to the Race Ready app over Bluetooth and supports compatible third-party apps through the FTMS protocol. It also supports wired racing through RJ11, with Race Ready’s web-based racing software available over Bluetooth or a USB-C-to-RJ11 adapter.
What performance data does the Perg Model 1 track?
Alongside pace, speed, distance, time, stroke rate, and power, the Perg Model 1 records drive time, recovery time, distance per stroke, and force curve.
By measuring force through the paddle shaft, it shows how power is applied throughout each stroke—and how that changes over a session. The monitor also measures drag factor in real time with every stroke, without calibration.
Performance data can be shared to Apple Health, Google Health, and Strava, or exported as FIT or CSV files.
Why is real-time drag factor measurement important for clubs?
Drag factor helps create a consistent basis for training and testing across machines. The Perg Model 1 measures it with every stroke, reducing the need for separate calibration and making it easier for clubs and coaches to compare performance across multiple Pergs.
What hardware and monitor options are available?
The Perg Model 1 can be configured to suit different paddlers, training preferences, and environments, with a choice of paddle shafts, seating, and training monitors.
Paddlers can choose between aluminium or carbon fibre shafts, with straight and bent-shaft options, as well as a moulded foam comfort seat or a machined wood bench seat. Two monitor options are available: the Club Training Monitor, designed for simple, reliable operation, and the larger Touchscreen Monitor, which offers a more connected training experience.

What are the Perg Model 1’s dimensions and storage requirements?
The Perg Model 1 measures 200 cm long × 90 cm high × 52 cm wide and weighs 48 kg. It is designed to accommodate paddlers from 127–193 cm (4'4"–6'4"), with a maximum user weight of 135 kg (297 lb).
Designed for both home and club training spaces, oversized 5-inch caster wheels make the Perg easy to move, while vertical storage helps free up floor space between sessions.
What warranty does the Perg Model 1 include?
The Perg Model 1 includes a three-year structural warranty and a one-year mechanical and technical warranty. Its modular design provides access to key components to simplify routine servicing and replacement.
